MVP War #12

Sorry all. Wasn't able to get this post created last week. Hopefully you can reach back and remember our "Return to glory".

Last week's war was sooo lopsided that I had to change my whole system of calculation due to the fact that we had 8 attacks after we achieved a perfect score. Clearly this was a domination of epic proportions. A look at Total MVP Scores from last week:

Nominees:

Rachemz (score: 2.08) - scored 6 stars and got a bonus for being a team player and hitting a lower level opponent to get three of the last four stars available. She also had a successful defense against their team's #3 player holding them to only 1 star gained.

MightyMingus (score 1.5) - Mingus had nearly an identical day to Rachemz also gaining 6 stars and holding their #3 player to only 1 star gained. A solid performance from our #8 hitter last week.

Rolf (score 1.25) - Can't recall if this was truly Rolf or CLD, but whomever was behind the screen earned the 3rd nomination by virtue of his attack on their #6 player. While he only gained 1 star, it was the star that gained us a perfect score. It also occurred against a pesky #6 base that required four attacks to get all 3 stars.

03/29/2015 - War #13 Results

Results:
Good Guys - 43
Bad guys - 34

Solid win...Our offense was great...but our defense was even better.  They used up 24 out of 30 attacks, and still could only score three 3-stars...and only after multiple attempts.

War #11 Nominees

Note: I know we didn't win but I enjoy running the numbers after our wars, so you get an MVP vote whether you want it or not.

Nominees:
Maximus (score: .9167) - Batting in the #4 spot, Maximus gained 5 stars (against their #6 and #2 bases) and only yielded 2 stars against their #4. He also was a recipient of the an amazing attack bonus by virtue of his 2 star performance against their #2 player.

TheJoeEngle (score: .5833) - Our #7, TheHun™ is on the list by virtue of his epic attack (bonus granted) against their #4. By squeaking out 2 stars, he saved us from the clutches of defeat. TheHun was also able to score 3 stars against their #9 but yielded 3 stars to his #7 counterpart.

MightyMingus (score: .25) - Mingus struck #5 & #7 gaining 5 new stars in our efforts this weekend. He also yielded 3 stars (a common theme for us this weekend) against their #10 which is why he is only listed as 3rd in MVP scoring.

CLD (score: .1667) - Either Cld was having a weird weekend or all these numbers are running together on me. CLD attacked their #3 for 3 stars and their #1 for 1 star then defended against their #2 for 2 stars... Strange...

War Results - 03/09/2015 - The Iranians Strike Back

War Results

Good Guys - 35
Bad Guys - 39

Tough war today, all...but hold your heads high.  We are just coming off of a 9 week winning streak!
This particular match-up was tough.  The enemy clan had 6 more dragon attacks than we did.  In addition,  many of their bases were close to maximum Town Hall 8.  Their #1 had three level-6 Air defenses and #2-4, #7, #8,  all had level-5's...very tough against even the best offenses.

So to lose by 4 stars isn't bad at all!

First off...top overall performances for MVP.  Nevermind the loss, we had some pretty amazing performances.  Using the BCS computer created by Electric, here are the final tallies:

Friebz - (score: .3888)
Maximus the merciful - (score: .3125)
Mingus - (score: .2777)
Cardstormer - (score: .1388)

MVP Nomination Process & War #9 Nominees

The process to select an MVP for the wars has been plagued with inconsistency and accusations (Joe!). So now that we have a full blown site for this kind of stuff, I was thinking the process can run as follows:

Nomination (BCS Machine)

After consulting with the best minds in the field of sports statistics and my local bartender, I worked up a spreadsheet that calculates a performance value for every participant during the course of the war. The sheet looks at the player ranks, performs an expected star value for attacks and defenses, and then averages the result against the number of actions that occurred for each player. As an example, if a #2 attacks a #6, the spreadsheet expects the result to be 2.5 stars. If the #2 gets 3 stars, then the player scores .5. If the player gets only 2 stars, then the player scores -.5. The higher the score, the better a player has done during the war. A score of 0 would indicate an average performance. A score below zero would indicate a Cleveland Browns-esque level of performance.

To make things even more complete and fair, there are qualifiers available that will be granted based on certain circumstances. Those are: 'necessity attack' - you attacked a target because you had to not necessarily because you wanted to (thanks for being a good teammate), 'Epic Defense' - You made a last stand Helm's Deep style stand, or 'Epic Attack' - You attacked a superior opponent and made them cry.

The goal being to identify, objectively, the highest performers during the course of the war. Those who perform well enough will be nominated for MVP.

Voting

I will take the highest performers and place them into a poll on this site so that we all may vote on the MVP. I will also try to highlight the reason they scored the way that they did.

So without further ado... here is a look at the highlights and high scores:

War #9 Results

TheJoeEngle (score 1.58) scored 3 stars in each of his attacks and added 3 stars to the team total. Joe also held his own against an attack from their #2 only giving up one star. Most importantly however, Joe's first attack, in true Hun form, was against their #1 and he crushed it. This attack earned Joe the highest attack score to expected value and earning him the Epic Attack bonus.

MightyMingus (score .75) played cleanup this weekend and promptly 3 starred both of his opponents (#10 and #4) adding 4 stars to the team total. MightyMingus also held his own against a revenge attempt by their #4 yielding only one star. Overall, a strong consistent performance.

Rolf (score .75) despite being ranked first and being heavily favored in all his attacks, Rolf managed to crack the top three by virtue of his shutout of their #1 player earning the second highest defense to expected score. Rolf also managed to add 5 stars to the team total via victories over their #6 and #9 ranked opponents.

Maximus (score .6666), the merciful, would probably be ranked higher if not for the stupidity of dragons during his first attack. Despite getting a 97%, his one star attack on their #4 resulted in a small loss and a narrow miss at besting Mingus and Rolf. His second attack (a three star beat down against #5) and his defense (one star yielded to their #2) redeemed him and placed him tied for 4th in rankings.

Cwood (score .6666) also tied for 4th, is on this list purely for his epic defense against their #9. A defense so hilarious, it forced Blimpus to record it and post it on YouTube. Not only did this attack rank the best in terms of result vs expected, it was also received the bonus for epic defense. I invite you to all to watch the reply again and find the exact moment their player uttered "oh shit" (score .6666)

Electric_Oasis (score .6666), yours truly, tied for 4th place by virtue of ballooning my opponents into submission (#7 and #8). I would have given TheHun a run for his money if I had only done a bit better in my defense against their #5. Getting 6 stars but yielding 3 of my own, I humbly submit that dragon attacks are malarkey.

So that's the list. Thanks for reading. Please vote below and leave any comments on how I can make this process better.

Also big thanks to Blimpus for putting the site together and for helping to design the performance tracking spreadsheet.
